Earring weight
Larger studs and heavy drops need enough support to remain balanced without concentrating unnecessary pressure on the lobe.
Security needed
Value, intended activity, and how often the earrings will be removed help determine whether a simple friction fit or locking system is appropriate.
Ease of use
Finger dexterity, nail length, and the wearer’s preference matter. A more secure mechanism is not useful if the customer cannot operate it comfortably.
Compatible construction
Post thickness, thread, notch, hinge, and catch must be specified together. Backs should not be assumed to fit posts from another system.
